[Jom Fit] EFFECTIVE EXERCISES FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENT

Balancing the demands of university life can be challenging, but finding time for physical activity is crucial for both your physical and mental well-being. Incorporating exercises into your routine during your free time can boost your energy levels, improve focus, and help manage stress. In this article, we'll explore a range of exercises tailored to the busy schedules of university students.

Students may not have easy access to the gym to do workouts, hence dorm room yoga is a great alternative to do so. Yoga is perfect for enhancing flexibility, reducing stress, and improving posture. You do not need a lot of space to do yoga as your dorm room will suffice. Incorporate poses like the downward dog, tree pose, and child's pose. Some numerous online resources and apps offer guided dorm room yoga sessions. Students can also refer to applications such as YouTube to find videos related to yoga posture

Next is bodyweight strength training. Bodyweight strength training is almost similar to yoga as students do not need a lot of space to practice it. Leverage bodyweight exercises to build strength without needing gym equipment. Push-ups, squats, lunges, planks and burpees are excellent choices. Create a routine by performing three sets of each exercise, gradually increasing the repetitions as you progress.

Running or jogging is a convenient and effective way to stay fit. Lace up your sneakers and explore nearby parks or running trails. Start with a comfortable pace and gradually increase your distance and intensity over time.

Turn your free time into a dance party! Students can do a dance workout in their dorm or in any space that students can use to do so. Dance workouts are not only fun but also a great way to burn calories. You can follow dance routines on YouTube or join dance classes on campus.

If you have a bicycle, cycling is an enjoyable way to explore your campus area and its surroundings while getting a good workout. Some gardens do allow people to cycle so students can make use of those. Cycling is more enjoyable if you do it with your friends. Consider biking to classes or using it as a means of commuting. There are places where students can rent bicycles. For instance, Universiti Malaya Centre for Continuing Education (UMCCed) can rent bicycles at GO! Cyberjaya Cycling and Hobby Store. However, please be careful if you decide to cycle outside the campus area.

Students can also do a simple exercise method which is stretching and relaxation. Don't overlook the importance of stretching, especially during stressful academic periods. Engage in gentle stretches to relieve muscle tension and promote relaxation.

Balancing academics with physical activity is a challenge that university students face, but it's essential for overall well-being. By incorporating these exercises into your free time, you can boost your energy levels, manage stress, and maintain a healthier lifestyle throughout your university journey. Remember, even small bursts of physical activity can make a significant difference in your overall health and mindset.
